The sanctimonious EU does sanctions like swiss cheese – a fake exempting all of the items that would really make a difference to Russia – like oil & gas and the Russian bank that handles the oil & gas transactions.
But we’ve focused so much on them, that we’ve lost sight of our other “significant other” – our far eastern friends who rely on America to protect them.
JAPAN. Is now buying even MORE OIL from Russia – at a discount of course.
JAPAN. Won’t stop their OIL & GAS (lng) projects in Russia
SOUTH KOREA. Is still buying OIL from Russia !
SOUTH KOREA. Samsung is still selling like crazy in Russia.
INDIA: Is now buying OIL AT DISCOUNT from Russia. They are getting a 35% discount – not as relief from current prices – but from the price before its pre-war rise!
Lessons:
It’s fair to say they turn out to be fair-weather “friends”. Yup, their way is one-way: America help us; but we’ll only help ourselves.
Yes, great Friend South Korea wants the America umbrella, and shows its gratitude by undercutting our existential need to stop Putin.
Yes, brave Friend Japan would rather allow the Russian snake to wind its coils around its neck than brave China over oil & gas in the South China Sea.
Well, when Japan runs into storms with China in the South China Sea should we not reciprocate and become their “fair-weather” friend?
After all, ‘what are friends for’?
